"I started basic crocheting as a hobby at the age of 12 years but later realized that I enjoyed making new pieces so much that the time I spent crocheting increased tremendously. I conducted research online and realized that I can bring awareness of this traditional technique of crochet to life by showing the public that it can be contemporary."
Colita Ishmile-Mohamed, owner of CIM Exotic Designs was born and raised in Guyana. She became attracted to crochet at the age of twelve when she saw a woman selling crocheted baby items within the community. She attended a training class for two weeks during that summer break, where the basis of crochet was taught. In 2003, she ventured off to high school and graduated in 2008. In 2012, Colita started creating crochet pieces and later launched a page on facebook; while conducting studies in accounting and business management.
In the few years of doing what she enjoys, Colita is now skilled in crocheting innovative pieces of women clothing, bags and accessories, that captured the eyes of artistic Guyanese. She is a wife, a mother of a two year old son, and works full time as a Senior Accounts Clerk at the Environmental Protection Agency. Much of her leisure time and late hours are spent designing beautiful pieces. Colita was a participant in the first Curlfest exhibition held in Guyana on October 9th, 2016 at the Promenade Garden, Georgetown
